If you are already using DataEase for Windows, upgrading to 7.2 should be a straight forward process, but this will depend on what version you are currently using.
If you are a DataEase 7 or 7.1 user you can get a free upgrade to DataEase 7.2. You will be able to install 7.2 and open your 7 or 7.1 application as normal but please note it will not be backward compatible, i.e. you won’t be able to revert back to 7 or 7.1 so ensure you take a backup copy of your application prior to using it with DataEase 7.2.
If you are using earlier versions of DataEase you will need to “migrate” your application to 7.2. This is because DataEase 7 underwent a major coding change – it was the first version of DataEase to use a 64 bit file system and the way in which both data and definitions were stored was also re-addressed.
To facilitate the transition between DataEase 6.x and DataEase 7.2, a migration tool is included in 7.2 that will automatically upgrade a complete application from DataEase 6.x.
If you are using earlier versions of DataEase for Windows (5.x) you can still go through some “stepping stones” to reach your final destination, but we would strongly recommend you consider using the services of one of our Approved Consultants for a fast, reliable and cost-effective solution.
As a general guide here is a migration path to DataEase 7.2:
-From DFW 5.x Upgrade to DataEase 6.52, and then use the the Migration tool in DE7.2 (or use the services of one of our Approved Consultants)
-From DFW 6.x Use the Migration tool in DE7.2 (or use the services of one of our Approved Consultants)
-From DFW 7.x Simply open your application in 7.2
Are you using DataEase DOS? Then see our Upgrading from DataEase DOS section.
Using the migration tool in 7.2 will simply port your application as it was in the previous version to 7.2 but it won’t take advantage of the many new features that have been introduced in DataEase 7 and later.
