There is a 20 year gap between DataEase DOS and DataEase 7.2 and therefore the differences between the two are many. For a start they were developed for completely different operating systems, with DOS being character based and Windows graphical. Although there are a few common elements which can be ported to Windows without too much effort such as the data, tables and DQL scripts, all the user interface elements such as menus, forms, imports, fields and report layouts will need to be recreated using the Windows graphical interface. This provides an opportunity to include many of the new features and enhancements available in Windows such as the use of tabs, images, buttons and a whole host of elements that will improve productivity and user experience.
This DOS to Windows porting and redevelopment process can seem daunting to many but before you abandon the idea of moving away from DOS let us put you in touch with one of our approved consultants.
